  • AMS Food Bank: An emergency food relief service for UBC students, faculty and staff that offers various perishable and non-perishable foods, personal hygiene supplies, budgeting tips and information on additional resources in and around Vancouver.

  • UBC Meal Share Program: Provides non-repayable funds or significant discounts to access food to students experiencing financial barriers.

  • Food Security Initiative: A collaborative, multi-disciplinary, and systems-based approach to addressing food insecurity at UBC with the aim of creating scalable solutions to further policy and advocacy work and practices.

  • Roots on the Roof: A student-run club focused on creating community-minded experiences and opportunities for personal empowerment that also incorporate concepts of food justice, culture health and sustainability.

  • Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at UBC Farm: A teaching and research centre and local-to-global food hub working towards a more sustainable, food-secure future

Simon Fraser University

  • Simon Fraser Food Pantry: Launched in February 2022 to support SFU’s food insecure student population with emergency top-up food and hygiene supplies.

  • Embark Sustainability: Offers various programming to support students with food alternatives and to learn new food skills, such as gardening & food preparation.

  • Food Systems Lab: SFU’s Food Systems Lab is a research and innovation hub working on evidence-based solutions to support a sustainable food system that enhances ecosystems, conserves natural resources, mitigates climate change, and promotes food security. 

  • SFU Community Free Fridge: The Community Fridge is a safe, low-barrier and non-judgmental way for staff, students and faculty to support each other, to reduce waste, and to ensure everyone in our university community can feed themselves and their families. 

  • Emergency Grocery Card Program (for graduate students): A program that provides limited assistance to graduate students in urgent financial need. It is not meant to replace the services offered by the university (including SFU’s bursary program for graduate students), food banks, or long-term remedies for graduate students’ financial needs.

  • UVIC Society for Students with a Disability Summer Food  Security Program (2022): A program to reduce financial barriers for UVic students with disabilities

  • Community Garden:

    • UVIC Community Cabbage: A student-run group who provides experiential learning opportunities to learn about local food waste by rescuing food in the region and sharing food on campus

    • UVIC Sustainability Project: A forum for discussion, with postings and other educational resources to explore and reflect on the question: “how healthy is our food system?
